General
There are a lot of reasons for push notification issues. In most cases it has nothing to do with the Lovely app itself. On this page we want to offer possible solutions for both Android and iOS operating systems. On Lovely you get notifications for example for new requests, messages, profile visits or if a member is nearby. You can deactivate or activate single notification types in the settings of the Lovely app.
Digest
When the app is not active we collect notifications for a particular time interval so that you are not flooded with notfications. If you get a profile visit from someone for example and the same person sends you a request message a minute later we only send you a push notification about the new request. The profile visit can of course still be found among the visitors but we think it's necessary to send you a separate notification for the visit. If you have a conversation with someone and you get a new message we always send a notification right away to ensure that you do not miss anything. The system behind Lovely is intelligent and sorts out things by importance for you. When you leave the app (close or put in background) we collect information for you for a short period of time and this period gets longer when you do not respond to notifications (up to one digest notification per day).
ANDROID
Lovely uses Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) for notifications. In this way the Lovely app does not have to be connected to the Lovely servers all the time. If something new happens you get a GCM message. In this way we do not drain your battery.
If you do not get notifications or those arrive delayed (e.g. after half an hour) then you can perform the following steps to solve the problem:
- Go to Settings in your Lovely app and check that notifications are enabled
- Reboot your device
- Go to Settings > Apps >Lovely in your Android system and check that "Show notifications" is enabled
- Go to Settings > Data usage in your Android system, press menu button and ensure that "Restrict background data" is disabled
- Go to Settings > Data usage >Lovely in your Android system and make sure that "Restrict background data" is disabled
- Make sure that Lovely is excluded from any battery saver option on your device
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, press menu button, open "Advanced" and ensure that "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Always"
- Uninstall or deactivate all apps that interfere with the push connection
- task killer or battery saver apps like "GOTaskmanagerEX", "Super Task Killer", "Juice Defender"
- apps that limit the permissions of installed apps like XPrivacy, Privacy Guard, App Ops
- Software firewall apps like DroidWall, Personal Firewall for Android
- Ensure that your Internet access allows TCP ports 5228-5230 for GCM (firewall etc.).
- You can install Push Notification Fixer if you have network timeouts. This free app will ensure that your Android device will always have a push connection. It sends the Android periodic heartbeat more often so that there is no disconnection caused by mobile providers or network routers.
iOS
- Go to Profile > Settings in your Lovely app and check that notifications are enabled
- Go to iOS Settings > Notifications >Lovely. Ensure that badges, alerts and sounds are turned on.
- Turn off your phone.
- Turn your phone back on.
- Restart Lovely app to get a new push connection
- allow the ports that are being used by Apple notifications in your firewall. You can turn off Wi-Fi to see if push notifications work with 3G connection
- Uninstall the Lovely app and re-install from AppStore
If all these steps did not help please contact us with a remark that you have tried to fix the problems with help of these tips and please add detailed information about your device (operating system version, Lovely app version, manufacturer, model name). Thank you.
